After a long time, we saw two movies releasing back to back with the same concept. Both the movies had excellent trailers, followed by quirky dialogue promos and the same release date too. Initially, it led to mud-slinging with both parties claiming that the one film has copied the concept of other one. Even the matter moved to court but they were resolved lately and it was decided that 'UJDA CHAMAN' will release on 1 November and 'BALA' will release on 8 November. Now, since both the movies have released- let's see which one is better and how?
Now, talking about the similarities first, it is the CONCEPT. Both the movies are based on Premature Balding. Secondly, both the movies revolved around the MARRIAGE of the Protagonist. Thirdly, both the movies had REMAKE Party Song - 'Outfit' and 'Naah Goriyee'.

Now, talking about the differences, the treatment of both the stories is different. Like the story of UJDA CHAMAN revolves around the concept of marriage and revolves around that from the start to the end whereas if we talk about BALA, it is the journey of the character where the concept of marriage is main plot but still the treatment doesn't look stretched and goes easy without hampering the pace of the film. Now, talking about them individually to make the understanding better -
UJDA CHAMAN starts with the lead character who is facing premature Balding and faces rejection from almost everyone until he finds a college student who rejects him later. Then he finds a girl, who is obese but is good at heart and due to certain misunderstandings, their marriage is fixed. But the whole time, the protagonist thinks she isn't right for him as she is obese and what happens next is what you see in the film. The story of the movie is good but the treatment is slow and done quite leisurely. The movie starts off good and entertains very well in the first half but drags and loses it's steam in the second half. Here is where it is different from Bala.
BALA is the story which starts from the childhood of the character who is called Bala because of his wavy hair but as he grows, he faces premature balding. Here, unlike UJDA CHAMAN, the character sketch of the lead character is completely different. He is more funny, more charming and the characters around his life are completely different. Also, he listens to every idea and tries it which makes the movie more interesting generating more laughter punches. The SIMILARITY in the both the movies is that the parents of the lead character are funny and have best one-liners in the film but the role of brother of the lead character in BALA is better scripted than that of the brother of UJDA CHAMAN. For many, Dheerendra Kumar Gautam (younger brother of BALA) will be the BIGGEST SURPRISE of the Movie.

Now, talking about few particular scenes, In UJDA CHAMAN, the character almost loses hope after listening to the high rate of hair transplant and his character moves forward, but in BALA, few scenes are devoted to the ways in which Bala tries to grow his hair but fails. These scenes are relatable and are extremely funny in execution provided the best background score.
Now, talking about the one-liners of both the movies, this is where both the movies stand head-to-head. The dialogues of UJDA CHAMAN and BALA are equally funny and the dialogues mouthed by the parents of lead character are supremely funny and entertaining.
Treatment of emotional scenes in Second Half is what makes BALA enriching affair and UJDA CHAMAN an average film. The lack of good background score in the film and no good songs dilutes the impact of emotional scenes in UJDA CHAMAN whereas in BALA, these are the scenes where the character of BALA shines. The infusion of comedy in some emotional scenes in done brilliantly in BALA + the Pyaar Toh Tha gives the right dose of feelings and emotions of Bala. Also, emotions of BALA are beautifully portrayed as the girl he liked went away not even listening to him but in UJDA CHAMAN, you don't feel bad for the character because he realizes the girl he didn't liked till his engagement day is perfect for him and she is one he likes. Like, seriously!! Naah, the emotions fell flat.
Overall, BALA has already crossed the Lifetime Collections UJDA CHAMAN by the evening shows on DAY-2. Many will say that Bala stars Ayushmann Khurrana who is a bigger brand but it is the content that wins. If the content of Ujda Chaman would have been better, it would have retained shows in WEEK-2 but it has lost most of it's screens to Bala itself. Though, I will say that even Bala isn't an excellent movie, it has it's flaws in the second half which makes it a bit slow but since, the debate was around the two movies, we are here to recommend the best for our followers and fans.
