THE BEST SCENES OF KAPOOR AND SONS

Kapoor and Sons completes 5 years today and is one of my favorite films of the last decade. The film is simply fantastic because it connects the dots really well between all the family members. All the five members of the Kapoor family stand out on their own and had a great character sketch to follow. Starting with Dadu, played effortlessly by Rishi Kapoor, who simply owned the screen with his magnetic performance. Rajat Kapoor, who played the father and got the nuances absolutely right, especially in the plumber scene (more on this later). The coming to Ratna Pathak Shah, who donned the role of the mother brilliantly well. She was absolutely fantastic in the climax portion, despite a less screen presence. Then, coming to Fawad Khan, who played the 'flawless' elder son with an ease and looked charming at its best. Lastly, Sidharth Malhotra, who showed the uneasiness and portrayed the frustrated younger son, who just isn't able to understand what all goes behind him and why. Now, coming to my favorite scenes in the film -

1. PLUMBER SCENE - One of the most hilarious parts of the film where the whole family is quarelling about their issues and its the plumber, played fantastically by Amarjeet Singh, who steals the cake here. The whole fight sequence, with the phone ringing in the background, and then plumber asking for his payment, is one of the smartest written scene of the film.

2. ALIA'S BACK STORY - Alia slipped into the character of Tia easily and played the role of girl next door really well. But, her best scene was the one in which she tells the back story of how her parents died and their last conversation. It's one of her best acted scenes and she will really touch your heart, especially in that conversation.

3. THE LAST CONVERSATION BETWEEN HARSH AND SUNITA - One of the best written scenes from the film. A simple one-to-one conversation where their is subtle humor and hearty emotions, The almost patch-up of the parents looks like it will bring the change in the story but the ending shocked us.

4. THE PRE-CLIMAX SCENE - It's one of my favorite scenes where almost everything starts falling apart and almost everyone loses their cool. Arjun (Sidharth) gets to know about Rahul's (Fawad) secret that he had copied the plot of his novel and almost chokes him to death. Sunita (Ratna Pathak Shah) gets to know about Rahul's secret, which breaks her heart and she goes in a state of shock. Harsh's (Rajat Kapoor) secret about Anu is also out and Rahul starts hating him for this. All hell breaks lose when Harsh goes out and his car has an accident, leading to his death.

5. THE LAST PHOTO - The most emotional moment of the film comes when Rishi Kapoor asks the kid to come one last time to meet him before he dies. He tells about the poor state of their mother and tells them that he could have survived but it all goes for a toss after Harsh's death. All this accompanied with a soft background score did bring a lump in my throat and is totally one of the best scene from the
film. This whole scene leading to the last photograph is one of the best scenes from the film.

Overall, I would say that these tid-bits, great cinematography, fantastic performances, good story writing and outstanding direction made this one a fantastic watch. This one truly deserved the awards and is one of the best content oriented films in the last few years.
