RISING STAR - RANBIR KAPOOR

One of the most promising actors of the current generation, RANBIR KAPOOR had an average previous decade as some of his movies worked successfully whereas some of them doomed at the box-office. He did a total of 12 Movies out of which 6 were Hits and above. His movies collected 1200 Crores at the box-office, taking the average to 100 Crores/Film. Let's take a look at his hits and misses -

THE HITS -

His first release of the decade was RAAJNEETI, a multistarrer political thriller, which draws parallels to the epic MAHABHARATA, was a SUPERHIT affair. The movie had him in the lead and his performance was quite appreciated. The movie missed the 100-Crore Mark by a whisker. His next was ANJAANA ANJAANI, a romantic film and was an average film. The movie received praise for the chemistry between the actors, the songs of the film, and its cinematography. His next was ROCKSTAR,  his first film with Imtiaz Ali. The movie was appreciated critically and commercially, leading to a running success at the box-office. He received appreciation for his role as JANARDHAN 'JORDAN' JAKAR or JJ and won various awards at multiple shows.

His next film was BARFI, again a super hit movie. The movie had fantastic performances, soothing songs, excellent direction, superb humor, and emotions. The movie was felicitated at various shows & ceremonies and received a thunderous response from the audiences. His character Barfi became an instant favorite of many and he became a big star after two back to back hits.

The next he did was YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI, one of the most appreciated films of the previous decade and was a BLOCKBUSTER. From the casting to the execution, everything from the film received a thunderous response, and the movie became one of the biggest non-holiday grosser of that time. Again, his role as the flamboyant playboy BUNNY became the talk of the town because of its relatability and humorously written dialogues.

Then, after a rough patch of 3 years, he delivered another success - AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL. The movie touched the hearts of many people due to its storyline and became a decent success at the box-office. The movie had excellent cinematography and a gem of a music album as well. The movie, despite a clash, worked well at the box-office and became a HIT in the long run. His next success was SANJU, an ALL-TIME BLOCKBUSTER. The movie is one of the best films of Ranbir and as said, was a humongous success. The movie, directed by RAJKUMAR HIRANI, won various awards and enjoyed critical and commercial success equally.

THE MISSES -

After delivering back to back successes right from 2010-2013, Ranbir delivered a few misfires as well. After the mammoth success of YJHD, he next did BESHARAM. The movie was one of the most anticipated films of 2013 and hence opened huge across the country. One of the biggest factors of its huge opening was seeing the Kapoor Family together on the big screen. The movie failed due to its poor content and was rejected by the audiences as well. Next, he did ROY, a romantic film, which had a soothing music album but again due to extremely negative reviews, it failed miserably. Next was BOMBAY VELVET, which was a disaster. The movie failed to generate the hype and due to its low appealing content, it fared poorly at the box-office. His next was TAMASHA, one of the best films of the previous decade, but it didn't work that well. The storytelling by Imtiaz Ali was appreciated and Ranbir's act was quite appreciated as well. But due to its low appealing genre and no mass pleasing elements, it failed to make a mark.

Then he did JAGGA JASOOS, another film of his which was good but received a dull response at the box-office. The movie did satisfactory business at the box-office but due to its extremely high budget and increasing Cost of Production, it failed to break-even at the ticket windows.

NEXT RELEASES -

1. SHAMSHERA - An action-adventure set in the 1800's,  the film is about a dacoit tribe who took charge in the fight for their rights and independence against the British. The movie stars Ranbir, Sanjay Dutt, and Vaani Kapoor in lead roles. The movie is directed by Karan Malhotra and was scheduled to release on 31 July. But I guess due to the pandemic, it might get postponed.
