SUPERSTAR OF THE DECADE - SALMAN KHAN

Salman Khan was the most successful star of the previous decade. He did a total of 16 Movies in the previous decade (excluding special appearances) and those collectively earned 2970 Crores at the box-office. The average being 185 Crores/Film, totally insane and a figure which is more than the collection of many movies of A-List actors of the country.

Talking about the movies he was a part of, VEER was his first film that released in 2010. Before Veer, he was a part of the Mega Success WANTED, which was a complete massy action masala film and almost revived the falling single screen cinemas of the country. He also starred in LONDON DREAMS and MAIN AUR MRS. KHANNA, both of them being disappointments at the box office.  Now, talking about VEER, it was an Anil Sharma film, whose previous film APNE, was quite appreciated across the country. VEER was a historic film and action was a big part of the film but it didn't work at the box office. The movie was a BELOW-AVERAGE affair at the box-office but the songs are remembered till date, especially Surili Ankhiyon Waale.

THE HITS -

Then comes the movie which made his career go all guns blazing and becoming everyone's favorite - DABANGG. The movie was a complete entertainer, catering to all the sections of the society and presented Salman in a larger than life avatar as CHULBUL PANDEY. The movie was one the biggest hit of the year and even earned the FILMFARE AWARD for the BEST FILM of the Year (2010). The movie earned him new fans who adored the style and charm of Salman.

From DABANGG, there has been no stopping for this man who continued delivering BLOCKBUSTER after BLOCKBUSTER. Some of them being - READY, BODYGUARD, DABANGG 2, PREM RATAN DHAN PAYO(PRDP), KICK and many more. Another film which he was a part of which received unanimously positive reviews - EK THA TIGER. The movie set up as a Romantic Action Thriller with Salman playing the role of a spy, was a big blockbuster. The movie collected 33 Crores on its opening day and recorded 100% Occupancy across theaters on its opening day. The movie just falls short of 200 Crores but gave Salman one of his most memorable characters ever. Also, it's sequel - TIGER ZINDA HAI, received positive reviews across the country and became his biggest grosser till date, collecting 340 Crores in its lifetime, becoming one of Bollywood's most successful movie series.

Now coming to his most celebrated film of the previous decade - BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN. The movie was his second collaboration with director Kabir Khan, who had directed him in the Blockbuster EK THA TIGER. Bajrangi Bhaijaan opened to extremely positive response from all critics, hailing it as Salman's best performance. The movie became Salman's first 300 Crore Grosser at the box-office and gave him another blockbuster. Bajrangi Bhaijaan became one of his most celebrated movies of the previous decade.

Though poor script selection and working with closed and known one's gave him few mediocre films like JAI HO & PRDP, he made a comeback again with SULTAN. It was his first collaboration with director Ali Abbas Zafar, who gave him a money spinner at the box office. Sultan performed as per its title and became a successful venture. It became one of the biggest openers of 2016 and holds the record of the biggest weekend of Bollywood. He collaborated with Ali again in Tiger Zinda Hai, which was their second 300 Crore film together.

THE MISSES -

In the past couple of years, Salman has associated himself with poor choice of films, which open big at the box-office but due to mediocre content, fail at the box-office. Starting from TUBE LIGHT in 2017, it was his third collaboration with director Kabir Khan and was expected to shake the box-office. But due to poor writing and miscasting, the film failed to click and ended up with just 120 Crores at the box-office. In 2018, he starred in RACE 3, another dud at the box-office. Both the above-mentioned films released on EID and didn't quite worked at the box-office due to extreme negativity and poor content. In 2019, he came up with BHARAT, which enjoyed a five-day weekend of 150 Crores but folded up at about 200 Crores, which again was due to average reviews and choosing a script which the single screens audience didn't appreciate much. This was his third collaboration with Ali and I won't say that I hated the movie, but it failed because of sky-high expectations. Last Release of the decade was DABANGG 3, which failed due to rubbish content and riots across the country. All these above mentioned movies had below-par content but still they collected 100+ Crores at the box-office. This makes it clear that he has the biggest fan-following across the country but by choosing a good script and working with those who know their job better will only do better of him.
