HIT MACHINE OF THE DECADE - AJAY DEVGN

Ajay Devgn is one of those actors who delivered hits after hits in the previous decade. He associated with multiple directors and genres and continued his glorious run at the box-office. He did a total of 23 films (excluding Tanhaji) in the past 10 years, which collected 1820 Crores at the box-office. With this, the average comes to 79 Crores/Film, which is good considering all the genres which he worked in didn't appeal to the family audiences. Let's take a look at the hits and misses -

THE HITS -

He started the decade with ATITHI TUM KAB JAOGE, which received moderate success at the box-office and was a Super Hit on Television. The rural areas typically were very impressed with the flavour of comedy and they liked it quite much. He next starred in RAAJNEETI, a multistarrer which was inspired from Mahabharat and was a political thriller. It received positive response all across but just missed the 100 Crore Mark by a whisker. Next came ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI, which was a gangster film and received excellent response due to massy dialogues and one-liners, which again was a hit at the box-office. His character, Sultan Mirza, became popular in a short span and hugely popular in the masses.

Next, he was part of GOLMAAL 3 with Rohit Shetty. Needless to say, it was a bonafide success and crossed 100 Crores at the Box-Office. The movie became hugely popular with the kids and the youth, who came as a repeat audience and hence a major blockbuster.  In 2011, he played the role of a lifetime as BAJIRAO SINGHAM. The character became hugely popular and became a running success. It was one of the biggest successes of the year and again crossed 100 Crores. The movie also had a sequel in 2014, which again was a success that opened big at the box-office and became a major success as well. The movies have now turned into a series, with SIMMBA & SOORYAVANSHI being next in the pipeline. Simmba is already a success and hopefully, Sooryavanshi will also be a big hit at the box-office.

Next, he became part of two extremely good comedies - BOL BACHCHAN & SON OF SARDAAR. Both of them became a big hit at the box-office and crossed 100 Crores each. The supporting cast of both the movies was praised highly which added some more humorous scenes in them.
In 2015, he was part of one of the highly critically acclaimed works of Bollywood in the last decade, DRISHYAM. The movie was a moderate success at the box-office as Bajrangi Bhaijaan & Bahubali 1 ate its part of the business. 2017 saw a turn in fortunes as the fourth installment of Golmaal crossed the 200 Crore Mark at the box-office becoming the biggest success for a comedy film in India. With this started the list of hits which at this point in time look unstoppable. Some of them being RAID, TOTAL DHAMAAL & DE DE PYAAR DE.

His last release was TANHAJI which became his highest-grossing film to date and was a riot in the state of MAHARASTRA. Though not including this in the list because it released in the previous decade, this is still another feather in his cap by giving fifth continuous success at the box-office.

THE MISSES -

His first disappointment also came in 2010 with TOONPUR KA SUPERHERO. The movie faced clash with TEES MAAR KHAN, which itself was a disappointment but carried a fantastic buzz. The movie was targetted towards, who enjoyed the film but didn't come to theatres to watch it. Next was Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji, which had good music but it appealed to a selected section of the audience and hence had a poor run at the box-office. Next was Rascals, a David Dhawan entertainer, which failed at the box office due to cheap humor and a bad script. Priyadarshan and Ajay Devgn had not been successful combo and the results were two disappointments again - Aakrosh and Tezz. Another big disappointment was HIMMATWALA, which was a remake of a giant commercial success with the same name. It didn't work due to the script. Another flop was Action Jackson as well as Baadhshaho. The former one was illogical whereas the latter looked incomplete.
